very interesting route. Explore old monasteries dating back to 11th century
i.e. Wangla, Mang Gyu and Alchi. You may find it difficult, but rewarding
crossing Tal-la Best Season : June to October end
1st Day : Lamayuru-Urshi....6 to 7 hours
From Lamayuru monastery descent towards the village, cross the stream, reach
Prinkiti -la(3720M). Descent into a gorge, pass Shilla to Wanla. Camp near
2nd Day : Urshi-Tar-la(5250M)-Tar
Village....8 hours The trail is very well marked but
difficult for 5 hours until you reach Tar-la (5250M). There are masses of
fallen rocks on the slope while descending the pass for 3 hours to reach Tar
Village. Descending may be difficult for horses.
Day : Tar Village -Mang Gyu.......4 to 5 hours Now path
goes up along the mountainside to a new pass, then descends towards Mang
Gyu. It is a beautiful village with a monastery. Below the village is a
stream, camp near the stream.
4th Day :
Mang Gyu-Gera-Alchi...4 to 5 hours Reach Gera Village
(from here a bridge across the Indus leads to the Kargil-Leh road).
Following Indus up-stream, pass Lardo (3 hours), until reaching the main
highway about half-an-hour before Alchi.
